Use exact pins thoughtfully

Choose an exact pin for public venues and places designed for visitors. Use an approximate area when precision could expose a person, home, vulnerable site, or fragile environment.

• Never pin a private residence without the resident’s clear permission.
• Do not identify shelters, private medical visits, or a person’s live location.
• Avoid exact pins for fragile natural sites when increased traffic could cause damage.

Respect access and local rules

A place appearing on Spoto does not mean it is publicly accessible or safe at all times.

• Check opening hours, permits, tides, weather, transport, and local restrictions.
• Do not cross barriers, enter closed property, or pressure others to take risks.
• Follow instructions from venue staff, land managers, and emergency services.

Protect people in your media

Public space does not remove a person’s right to dignity. Frame the place, not an unsuspecting person, as the subject.

• Ask before featuring someone prominently.
• Blur identifying details when necessary.
• Never reveal a child’s routine, school, home, or current whereabouts.

Keep business information fair

Opening hours, ownership, prices, and access conditions change. Phrase time-sensitive information carefully and correct it when you learn it is wrong.

• Do not falsely claim a business is unsafe or closed.
• Separate personal experience from factual allegations.
• Report urgent safety concerns to the relevant authority as well as Spoto.

Spoto is not an emergency service

If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. Reports to Spoto are reviewed as platform safety reports and are not monitored as an emergency channel.
